Lawrence Lavery, D.P.M., M.P.H., is a board-certified podiatrist and Professor of Plastic Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He is also medical director of UT Southwestern’s Comprehensive Wound Care Center and director of the amputation prevention program at Parkland Memorial Hospital. Dr. Lavery completed his undergraduate studies at Indiana University and then earned his medical degree at the Dr. William Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine in Chicago. He completed a residency in podiatric medicine and surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, where he also earned a Master in Public Health. Prior to joining UT Southwestern in 2010, Dr. Lavery held academic appointments at the Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine in Temple; the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio; and Loyola University Medical Center in the Chicago area. He has also served as a staff podiatrist at VA hospitals in San Antonio and Illinois. Dr. Lavery is a member of the American Podiatric Medical Association, the American Diabetes Association, and the Texas Podiatric Medical Association. He has been invited to lecture on podiatric medicine, diabetic ulcers, and wound care at medical conferences around the world and has published a dozen book chapters and more than 150 research articles on these topics. He has served on the editorial board for Diabetes Care and the International Diabetes Monitor, and was editor-in-chief of Foot and Ankle Quarterly and deputy editor of the Journal of Foot and Ankle Surgery.

Robert J. Chilton, DO, is an Associate Professor of Medicine and Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at the Audie Murphy VA/University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.
A fellow of the American College of Cardiology, American College of Physicians, American College of Osteopathic Internists, and American Heart Association, Dr. Chilton also chairs the Electrophysiology Board Examination for the American Osteopathic Association and presides over the San Antonio chapters of both the Cardiovascular Society and American Heart Association.
Dr. Chilton received his Bachelor of Science degree from Philips University, Enid, Oklahoma, and his DO from the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery, Des Moines, Iowa. He completed his internship at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, Ohio; his residency at the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and a cardiology fellowship at the Wilford Hall United States Air Force Medical Center, San Antonio, Texas. Dr. Chilton is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, and electrophysiology.
Over the past 20 years, Dr. Chilton has authored numerous articles, book chapters, abstracts, and presentations on cardiology. He has developed educational materials and has lectured widely, garnering several awards for his academic contributions, including 1994 Outstanding Teacher from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.

Dr. Shaheen received her undergraduate degree in Biology from Cairo University School of Science. She was awarded her M.D. degree and her Master Degree in Internal Medicine from Cairo University School of Medicine and practiced medicine for ten years. She received an Outstanding Award from the Ministry of Health in Cairo for her services and accomplishment in the field of internal medicine. She worked in several collaborative research projects between Universities in United States and institutions in Cairo. After completion of a multi-central collaborative project, Dr. Shaheen offered a fellowship to study toward master and doctorate degree at the School of Public Health University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). Dr. Shaheen received her Master in Public Health (M.P.H) and her doctorate degree (Ph.D.) in Epidemiology from the UCLA School of Public Health (UCLA). Dr. Shaheen worked as an internal medicine physician and as a researcher in Cairo. In the research field, she was appointed as a Chair of the Epidemiology, Biostatistics, and Computer Unit in the Nutrition Institute in Cairo. During her study period at UCLA, she worked at several research projects as a researcher and as a consultant. She also worked as a teaching assistant for several classes in the Department of Epidemiology at UCLA School of Public Health. She received two honor awards from UCLA School of Public Health; an Outstanding Service Award and Teaching Assistant of the Year for the Epidemiology Department. Dr. Shaheen has an extensive experience in teaching and research. She has 18 years of experience in research development and implementation. She has a unique experience in epidemiology and survey research methods. In collaboration with Professor Ralph Frerichs at UCLA Department of Epidemiology, she developed a rapid survey methodology that she utilized in conducting five surveys among the Latino and African American communities in Los Angeles. Dr. Shaheen is the program director and an instructor for the Master of Science in Clinical Research program at the College of Medicine at Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science. As an instructor she is teaching classes in clinical research and applications, epidemiology and epidemiologic methods, evidence based medicine, data management and data analysis, survey research methods and rapid surveys in urban areas.

Dr Azhar was appointed as a full-time primary care physician (clinical partner) at Danes Camp and Medical Centre in 2006, where he has been a senior partner since 2011. He is actively involved in research, undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training for many years. Dr Azhar led his Practice to become one of the very few primary care centers in the county to be accredited as a research hub; active in commercial and non-commercial portfolio studies, teaching and training practice. Incorporating research, teaching, and training as one of the core strategies for overall service development enabled him to turn around the practice. He is the clinical director of Diabetes and Primary Care Research for Northampton Research Centre, clinical director of General Practice Alliance (GP Federation), clinical director of R&D chair of Research Forum in Northamptonshire. A significant remit of his role is to teach/educate primary care colleagues across the country. He is GP trainer and faculty member of Leadership and Management Academy of Health Education Board East Midlands(HEEM). He teaches GP Registrars for the preparation of CSA and AKT and GP tutor for year 6 Medical students from Imperial College London, Leicester Medical school and Buckingham Medical School. Dr Azhar has been actively involved in developing Obesity management e-learning module for Omni Media and has written a chapter on prevention of CVD risks in diabetes mellitus in an RCGP book with a title “Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease. 1st ed. UK: RCGP; 2009. P 27-78”. He is not only involved in teaching GP colleagues, medical students, and GP Specialist Registrars but also involved in multi-professional education. His area of special interest is diabetes and primary care research, and he works with the Leicester Diabetes Centre as a senior clinical research fellow. He leads an innovative project to know the barriers in the management of type 2 diabetes in primary care by doing a collaborative project with primary care clinicians, commissioners and people with type 2 diabetes. He is an appraiser of Central Midlands Area Team and has completed the REAL (Revalidation Enabled Appraisal and Learning) training module. Dr Azhar's career goal is to excel in primary care research especially in type 2 diabetes, teaching, and training of health care professionals at all levels.

Dr. Farid Menaa is an inter- and multi-disciplinary professional with worldwide reputation. Dr. Ahed Alkhatib has finished his PhD from Cambell State University in 2011. I am currently working as a clinical researcher at faculty of medicine, Jordan University of Science and Technology. Over the time, I have published more than 200 articles in various medical fields including neurosciences, pharmacology, and diabetes. My approaches in research include the involvement of philosophy of science in research which gives looking, and thinking in depth. I have developed several hypotheses in medicine such as the role of white matter in initiating diseases such as diabetes. In microbiology, I have demonstrated that prokaryotic cells and eukaryotic cells are similar in producing cell cycle proteins which can participate in autoimmunity diseases.

His contribution to this field includes four international books, 5 special issues in Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine and more than 100 indexed peer-reviewed articles and 20 book chapters of international repute. He served as Guest Editor and Member of Editorial Board of several international journals. He has been honored with the first Prize of Scientific Research in 2008 by the Moroccan Association of Research and Development and the first Prize of the Federation of Arab Scientific Councils in 2016. He has been classified among the best third Moroccan researchers in the field of Life Sciences and Pharmaceutical Sciences by the National Center of Scientific Research and Technology, Morocco for his scientific contribution. He has been the founding Dean of Polydisciplinary Faculty of Errachidia from 2008 to 2012.
